The drug war that has been going on for more than five decades has cost thousands of lives all over the world. When people think about legalizing drugs the first thing that comes up, is that drugs destroy the life of the people that consume it, but rarely they think about the lives that are affected by the war between drug lords and authorities all over the world. The most affected countries by this drug war have been Colombia and Mexico. During the 1980s Pablo Escobar, the most violent of all drug lords, got involved with the cocaine business. His reign caused thousands of Colombian lives, from politicians, policemen to civilians. And now the war on drugs has taken many lives of Mexican citizens during the last few years. So if drugs are illegal, cartels, organizations that smuggle drug, have to find ways no matter how inhumane to get their merchandise to their final destination. I once saw in the news a case where Mexican drug smugglers got a dead baby, took out all his internal organs and then filled his insides with cocaine, then sawed him up. They dressed him and cross the border legally, but since the baby just seem as he was asleep, the border patrol didn’t notice it. Now think about how many times that happens…a lot of times!
That is why if drugs are legalized and controlled, only the people who are stupid enough to buy them, would get affected, instead of the whole society.

There should not be a "fight" with drugs. Come to think of it, drugs either help or harm, depending on an individual's decision.
ReplyDeleteThose who are willing to risk their lives to consume massive amounts of risky drugs may do so, but how will that affect others? Other people may get the notion that drugs are bad and not want them in any cases whatsoever, even if they are proven to heal (medicinal marijuana, for example).
Drug users and non-drug users live in their own little world, but the two worlds clash when a drug war commences.
Your last paragraph stated that "only the people who are stupid enough to buy them, wuld get affected" this is not entirely true. Drugs affect everyone around the person using them. A good majority of the drugs that help save lives are controlled and used entirely for health reasons, not just because a person has a certain addiction. We can't just decide to legalize harmful substances just because people disobey the law. What would this be saying to the people with morals and boundaries...that these morals can be just thrown out of the window?
ReplyDeleteWell alcohol and cigarettes are also harmful substances but they are legal, they also affect the people around the user, smoking affects other with the second hand smoke. Alcohol causes the majority of car accidents and violence between couples. So if a person with morals sees somebody beating up his wife because he is drunk, the person with morals won't mimic that because he is wrong. Same thing if a person with morals sees somebody doing a line of cocaine, he knows that is stupid and he won't do it. Is not about the consumers, is about the people who die or get killed in the process of drug trafficking.
